The Baylor Bears are basketball team that is rich in traditions. The players and students yearly commemorate the death of 10 of its basketball players in a bus-train accident in Round Rock, Texas. The Immortal Ten story has been commemorated on campus since 1927, the year of the tragedy.
The Bears have played in 5 NCAA tournaments. Their latest March Madness game was played in 2008. It had been 20 years since their previous game in late march.
The team has made it twice to the Final Four and was the Championship runner-up in 1948.
The Baylor Bears made the news headlines again in 2003 when one if its players, Patrck Dennehy, was mudered by a retired Baylor player.
The murder investigation revealed that the team's head coach at the time had been making improper financial payments to the players. NCAA officials sanctioned the team for the following seasons.
On the other hand, the Bears have at least 2000 points in each of their last three seasons. They have also won a total of 45 games over the last two years. That is more then the combined total (36) in the first four years under Scott Drew. In 2008-2009 Baylor went 5-11 in conference games and 20-14 overall to finish 9th in the Big 12.
