Following the 2002-03 season, pictures surfaced showing Head Coach Larry Eustachy drinking and kissing female students at a college party in Columbia, Missouri. He was fired and replaced by Greg McDermont.
In 2009-2010 For the first time under Head Coach Greg McDermott, the Cyclones will return at least four players entering their third season at Iowa State. Overall, seven players who saw action in 23 games or more are back.
The Cyclones have had 13 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, reaching the Final Four once (in 1944). The team's latest March Madness appearances came in 2005. They did not make it past the first round.
In the 2008-2009 season, the team went 4-12 in conference games and finished 10th in the Big 12 Conference. They had a better performance in non-conference games. As of early February 2010 there are very little chances for the Cyclones to play in the postseason.
