The Sooners Athletic Department might be one of the strongest in the nation. Be it Basketball, Football, Track and Field, the Sooners have been outstanding.
The basketball program began its rise in the early 80’s in the hands of Coach Billy Tubbs.
The Sooners have won a combined twenty regular-season and tournament conference championships.
With the Big 12 Conference, they have 1 Regular Season title and 3 tournament titles.
2008-2009 proved to be a good season for the sooners. Blake Griffin was picked as the National Player of the year. They went 13-3 in the Big 12, to finish 2nd in the conference. They went 3-1 in the NCAA tournament, to move up to the Elite Eight round. This was Jeff Capel best performance yet as Head Coach. This was the 5th 30+ win season in Oklahoma's history.
2008-2009 proved a good season for the Oklahoma Sooners. This was the 13th time in the last 15 years that the Sooners have made it into the NCAA tournament. And to tip it off, the Sooners won the 16 team NIT tip-off title at the Madison Square Garden after winning over Purdue in OT.
