On April 6, 2007, Billy Gillispie resigned his position as head coach at Texas A&M to coach at the University of Kentucky.
Four days later, on April 10, Mark Turgeon, head coach of Wichita State University, was announced as the new men's basketball head coach at A&M. Ever since, the Aggies have made it into each of the NCAA Tournaments.
The team has 11 Conference titles and 2 Conference Tournament titles, won between the years 1920 and 1986, when it was part of the Southwest Conference. As part of the Big 12 Conference, the team hasn't win a title yet.
The Aggies have been invited to the NIT six times and eight times to the NCAA Tournament. The Texas A&M aggies have advanced to the Sweet 16 in three occasions.
Texas A&M finished 4th in the Big 12 Conference during the 2008-2009 with an overall 23-9 mark and 9-7 record in conference play. Turgeon managed to improve things a bit for the 2009-2010 season. As of mid February, the Aggies are third in the conference with 7-4 in conference games, and 18-7 overall mark. Chances are they might do just fine in the postseason.
