The St. John's men’s basketball program is one of the most successful programs in the history of college basketball with a total of 27 appearances in the NCAA tournament, besides achieving 11 All-Americans, 2 Wooden National Player of the year awards and 59 former players have featured in the NBA.

Among the best high profile players are: Walter Berry, Mark Jackson, Ron Artest, and Malik Sealy.

The team plays its home games at the Madison Square Garden basically the most famous arena in the country and they hold a winning percentage of .680 reaching the 7th best place within the nation.

Last season was the 100th season of the Red Storm men basketball team.
