The school men’s basketball team won the first national championship in 1985.

More recently, Coach Jay Wright managed to have the team entered the the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in 2006.

During the same year, the team ranked number four within the US.

The team’s best known rivalry is with Philadelphia; a traditional challenge.

During the 2006-2007 season, the Wildcats had a record of 22-11 but lost to Kentucky in the first round of the 2007 tournament.
