Montana University's men basketball is called the Grizzlies and it has been a very successful program in the Big Sky Conference.
The Grizzlies have had 7 bids to the NCAA Tournament. In the 1977 the team was able to be one of the Sweet teams in the tournament.
In the Big Sky, the team has won seven regular season titles and six post-season tournament titles.
Currently, the team’s head coach; for the second consecutive season is Wayne Tinkle. He is the number 26 coach in the team’s history.
One of the team’s best achievements was during the 2006 NCAA Tournament when they defeated the University of Nevada – 87-79 one of the best games since 1975.
Coach Tinkle will put 100% of his efforts on the defense this 2008-09 campaign and apply a stronger offense this season.
