More recently in 2006 the basketball team made it to the Final Four; one of the best achievements in their history.

The team’s main rivalries are: Old Dominion, James Madison, Hofstra, Virginia Commonwealth and UNC Wilmington.

One of their best-known players is George Evans who was a CAA “Player of the Year” three straight consecutive times (1997-2001).

The team’s best season was in 2006 as they won a school-record of 23 games and were ranked in the USA Today/ ESPN top 25 for the very first time.

In the 2006-2007 season George Mason made it to the finals but lost against the Rams ending their season without any chances to get to the NCAA Tournament.
