The first men’s basketball team was created in 1945. The JMU Dukes men’s basketball is traditionally stronger and more successful than the football team, but the team has not been very successful over the past few years.
The Dukes have classified to the NCAA Tournament four times 1981,1982,1983 and 1994). They also got entries to the NIT five times, most recently in 1993. The Dukes has a all time record of 567-432.
The Dukes didn’t have a good season 2007-08, in where they finished with a conference record of 5-13. With these results, Coach Dean Keener is trying to have a better recruiting a class and is aiming for a better season this 2008-09.
