The William & Mary Tribe men’s basketball team had their first season in 1905.
The Tribe had several NBA Draft picks over the years, such as Keith Cieplicki, Brant Weider, Scott Whitley, Jeff Cohen, Don Lange, John Mahoney, Bill Chambers and Chet Giermak who was the fourth and the best pick of a W&M player in the NBA Draft.
W&MU was a member of the Southern Conference from 1937 to 1977. Then from 1978 throughout 1985 they belonged to the ECAC, where they won their first title in basketball.
Since 1986 to the present The Tribe has been member of the CAA. They have won 1 CAA regular season title in 98.
William & MARY ended the season 2007-08, with a winning overall record of 17-16 and a conference record 10-8. During the season the tribe makes a historical achievement by getting into the CAA Championship for first time in school history and also having a place to the NCAA Tournament. This season 2008-09, the Tribe is expecting the same results or better in the CAA and the NCAA Tournament.
