The UIC Flames men’s basketball team was created in the 1880. In the early years the UIC athletic program was known as the “Circle” but in 1982 the name changed to the Flames.
The Flames took part of the NCAA tournament in 1998 year in which they won the regular season conference title and the 2002 and 2004 tournaments. The team also made one presentation at the NIT Tournament in 2003.
Amongst some of the school’s most accomplished players are: Sherrell Ford who has the highest scoring with 707 points in the 1994-1995 season and the second higher scoring with a total of 704 points in the 1993-1994 season.
And Chuck Lambert who was the best rebounder for two seasons (1972-1973 and 1974-1975) with a total of 348 in one season and 318 the following one.
Currently the team is coached by Jimmy Collins and assistants Mark Coomes, Tracy Dildy, and Bryant Lowe. |
