The Lions is the name the men’s basketball team is recognized for. Their current coaches are; Head Coach Joe Jones and assistants Damien Strahorn, Jim Engles and Andrew Theokas.
Columbia’s Lions won one Conference title in 1968 one of the school’s major achievements in their long history in the sport. During the years of 1904, 1905, and 1910 the team was the National collegiate champions for the Helms Foundation rankings.
In 1957 the Lions had a total of 2,016 rebounds being the fourth highest in the history of NCAA Division 1.
In the early 80s the Lions achieved the 11th best all time field goal percentage with 79.4% and in 2002 they had the best defense in the nation allowing only 57 points per game. |
