The school men’s basketball program is known as the Big Red and the team has only achieved one title conference in 1988.

Despite the fact, basketball has not been one of the strongest athletic program the team managed to be part of the 16 Sweet group back in 1954. 

The team plays its home basketball games at the Newman Arena and the current team’s Head Coach is Steve Donahue.

The Big Reds are part of the Ivy League in the NCAA Division I-AA.

Last season Cornell had one of the best seasons in history, by ending with a conference record of 14-0 and an overall record of 22-6.  Also, Cornell became the first Division I men's team to clinch a berth in the 2007-08 NCAA tournament with an 86-53 victory over Harvard. The Big Red went on to play against Stanford in the NCAA tournament, but losing with a score of 73-53.
