The school men’s basketball team which is nicknamed the Rattlers is currently being coached by James H. Ammons and belongs to the MEAC since 1986.
The team has achieved four post season conference tournaments with the MEAC in 1991, 1999, 2004, and 2007.
Coach Eugene Harris begins his second year with Florida A&M Men's Basketball Program this 2008-09 period. He worked 15 wins in his first campaign last 2007-08 - the most ever for a first-year FAMU coach during the Division One Era.
The Rattlers have a dangerous backcourt, but the team lacks depth and experience in the zone, Coach Harris is looking to correct these issues during the 2008-09 season.
