The Missouri State men's basketball team is known as the Bears and they have been members of the MVC since 1991.

The Bears have won one post season conference tournament in 1992. They have appeared 6 times in the NCAA Tournament and in 1999 the team reached the Sweet Sixteen.

Coach Barry Hinson left the team after failing to take the Bears to the 2007-08 NCAA Tournament.

New Coach for the 2008-09 campaign Cuonzo Martin comes highly recommended for the position and will play at the new JQH Arena this 2008-09 season.
