The Salukis basketball team is a well-known team in the conference, they have have won the regular season title 8 times and the post season conference tournament five times.

The team have participated 10 times in the NCAA Tournament, included consecutive years from 1993 to 1995 and from 2002 to 2007. Their best performance in the tournament was in 1999 when the team reached Sweet 16.

The team was left out after six straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament in the 2007-08 season. They participated in the NIT, but coach Lowery’s goal was to be on top of the MVC.

He is putting all of his efforts on the frontcourt this coming 2008-09 campaign and to make a direct impact, he recruited before the preseason started.
