The school men basketball team is known as the Panthers. It has been member of the MVC since 1992.

The team achieved the 2004 post season conference title and have appeared in the NCAA tournaments of 2004, 2005 and 2006.

The Panthers are led by Head Coach Ben Jacobson, and assistants Kyle Green, P.J. Hogan, Chris Foster, Don Bishop and Rich Glas who is the director of basketball operations. The team plays its home games at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls.

Some of the most accomplished Panthers basketball players who currently lead other teams are: Nick Nurse, and Greg McDermott who is the current Iowa State University head men's basketball coach.
