The school athletics program is known as the Rebels and they are members of the Mountain West Conference in the NCAA Division I.
The men's basketball team is considered very successful in the country due to its consistently in the top positions in points scored, turnovers forced, and most importantly - wins.
The Rebels won the regular season conference championship in 2000 as well as the post season conference tournament in 2000 and 2007.
UNLV posted 24-8 on the books last 2007-08 period, ranking 2nd overall the MWC. Even tough the team fell in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
This 2008-09 period, Coach Lon Kruger has done a wonderful job recruiting some of the best players in the Conference, making UNLV potency for the NCAA Tournament.
