The Blue Devils men’s basketball team had their first season in 1934. In 1986-1987 season they made the transition to the NCAA Division I.

The Blue Devils has participated in 3 national tournaments in Division I in 22 seasons. Before this, they appeared in 6 national tournaments in their 21 seasons with the NCAA Division II and in 10 national tournaments of the 29 seasons played in the NAIB/NAIA league.

The Blue Devils have had 4  NEC Players of the year, Rick Mickens, Corsley Edwards, Ron Robinson and Javier Mojica in the 2006-07 season.

One of the best coaches for the CCSU was Bill Detrick, who coached for 29 season and had the best record of wins for the school with 468.

Last season in hands of the NEC Coach of the Year 2006-2007 Howie Dickenman, the Blue Devils finished the season with a record of 16-2 and winning the conference title 2006-2007.

Currently Central Connecticut finished the 2007-2008 season with a record of 14-16 and loosing the quarterfinals of the Conference Tournament against Sacred Heart.
