The first Mount Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team was form in 1908 and was coached by William Walsh.
The Mount had great coach legacies; one of them was Jim Phelan, who coached Mount St. Mary’s men’s basketball team for 49 seasons. Phelan is third all-time in NCAA Division I wins with 830 and leaded the Mount to 16 NCAA Tournament participations.
Currently the Mount won the Conference Post-season Tournament beating Sacred Heart 68-55 and earning a trip to the NCAA tournament for the third time in the school history.
The Mount has won eight of its last nine games, including a win over top-seed Robert Morris in the semifinals. Their present overall record for the 2007-2008 season is of 19-15.
Currently one of the best players for the Mountaineers is Jeremy Goode, as a sophomore during last year’s NCAA Tournament season, Goode averaged 14.5 points and 5.5 assists per contest.
