The first Mount Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team was form in 1908 and was coached by William Walsh.
The Mount had great coach legacies; one of them was Jim Phelan, who coached Mount St. Mary’s men’s basketball team for 49 seasons. Phelan is third all-time in NCAA Division I wins with 830 and leaded the Mount to 16 NCAA Tournament participations.
The Mount top three scorers in the school history are Jack Sullivan, Chris Mcguthrie and Fred Carter, with records of 2,672, 2,297 and 1,840 points scored respectively.
The Mount men’s basketball program had a great success this year. |
Currently the Mount won the Conference Post-season Tournament beating Sacred Heart 68-55 and earning a trip to the NCAA tournament for the third time in the school history.
The Mount has won eight of its last nine games, including a win over top-seed Robert Morris in the semifinals. Their present overall record for the 2007-2008 season is of 18-14.
