The Wagner Seahawks first basketball team forms in the 1920-21 season in hands of Erastus LaRue Ely. In the season 1976-1977 Wagner University joined the NCAA Division I.
One of the legendary coaches for Wagner University was Herb Sutter who compiled 352-252 record from 1937-1965 (27thseasons).
Seahawk player Terrance Bailey has been considered by many as the greatest player in Wagner basketball history. Bailey score for a single season a total of 854 points and over his 4 seasons accumulated 2,591 points.
The Wagner Seahawks were aiming high in the 2007-08 campaign going 15-3 to finish second in the league. The twenty-three wins on the season were the most in the history of the program.
