The Oakland University men's basketball team is called the Golden Grizzlies and they belong to the Summit :eague since 1998.
The Grizzlies won the Summit regular season title in 2000, and the post-season tournament title in 2005, wich took the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance, where they defeated Alabama A&M in the opening-round game.
The team plays its home games at the Athletics Center O'Rena and their head coach is Greg Kempe, who is one of the top ten longest-serving coaches in the NCAA Division I.
Oakland conference record for the 2007-08 regular season was of 11-7 (as of March, 9) which placed it in third place of the Summit League standings. This season 2008-09, Coach Greg Kampe expects a better record and outstanding performances in the conference games this period.
