The men’s basketball team is known as the Panthers and throughout their history they won one single OVC post season conference tournament in 2001 plus two other post season tournaments with former conference Summit in 1985 and 1992. 

The Panthers’ Head Coach is Mike Miller who is in his third season at EIU; despite the rocky times the team has gone through Coach Miller has helped the Panthers to improve their low marks from previous years. His assistants are: Chad Altadonna, Michael Lewis and Chrys Cornelius.

Coach Mike Miller is clearly in an upgrading approach this 2008-09 period, trying to avoid the 5-15 record from last season.
