The school’s men basketball team is known as the Bulldogs. Recently, the team has shown improvements in their game performances.

Previous to join the Ohio Valley Conference the Bulldogs won two post season tournaments with former conference A-Sun back in 1999 and 2000.

Their most fierce full rivals are Birmingham-Southern College and some close by Alabama and Auburn teams not just basketball but other sports as well.

If any team in the OVC is capable of over performing this 2008-09 season, Samford looks like a most important contender.

Coach Jimmy Tillette took advantage of the recruiting period and comes with plenty of talent this campaign.
