The University of Stanford athletics program are known as the Cardinals which have won several regular season conference titles since as early as 1920 and more recently in 2004.

Likewise in 2004 the team managed to win the post season conference tournament.

In the 2007-08 season the team won an at-large bid for the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship. This will be the team's 17th appearance in the March Madness.

For the 2008-09 season new Coach Johnny Dawkins comes highly recommended from Duke and the NBA, even tough this is his first time as head coach.
