The University of Stanford athletics program are known as the Cardinals which have won several regular season conference titles since as early as 1920 and more recently in 2004.

Likewise in 2004 the team managed to win the post season conference tournament.

Stanford Cardinals’ records stand at: all games (26-7) overall, (16-1) home, (8-5) away plus a conference overall of
(13-5). 

Currently in the 2007-08 season the team won an at-large bid for the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship. This will be the team's 16th appearance in the March Madness.

The current Cardinal basketball head coach is Trent Johnson and they play their home games at the Maples Pavillion in Palo Alto,  California.
