South Dakota State men's basketball team is called the Jackrabbits and they belong to the Summit League since 2007.

The team played in the NCAA Division II until 2004 when they began the transition to Division I sports.

The Jackrabbits play their home games at the Frost Arena and their head coach is Scott Nagy, who has been with the team for 13 seasons.

The 2007-08 season was the first one of the team with the Summit League and their final record was of 8-21 overall, 3-15 in the conference, placing it at the bottom of the conference's standings. This season 2008-2009, the Jackrabbits expected to improve and placed themselves in a better position in the conference standings this period.
