The school men’s basketball program is known as the Crimson Tide. The basketball team has achieved several regular season conference championships since its early beginnings in 1934 until the most recent one in 2002. There have also been other post season tournaments victories in 1934, 1982, 1987, 1989, 1990 and 1991.

It wasn’t until recent year that Crimson Tide has advanced into several of the Elite Eight NCAA tournaments. The team plays its home games at the Coleman Coliseum and their current head coach is Mark Gottfried.

Gottfried has been to the head of the team since 1999; he possesses an overall record of 180-108 (.625) and has led Crimson Tide to 5 consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Some the Crimson Tide’s most accomplished players who now play in the NBA are: Robert Horry (SA Spurs), Latrell Sprewell ( Free Agent), Antonio McDyess (Detroit Pistons) and Maurice Williams (Charlotte Bobcats).
