The school’s men basketball team began playing early in 1915. It is known as Florida Gators and the team has won four different regular season conference championships since 1989 through their most recent one in 2007.
Additionally, the Gators won three post season conference tournaments and two recent national championships besides several NIT tournament appearances.
Billy Donovan took over the Gators basketball team in 1996 and has ever since led them to the top of the Conference; basically a total of 4 titles of the regular season championship.
The Gators achieved the NCAA Tournament last 2007-08 season, but did not performed vey good. Coach Billy Donovan’s efforts this 2008-09 period will concentrate on the SEC Championship first and then the NCAA Tournament one more time.
