The LSU Tigers basketball is has had an extend history as since their early beginnings the team has achieved to win a total of nine regular season championships from 1935 until their most recent one in 2006.
The basketball team was part of the Southern Intercollegiate Association until 1921 then they moved for 12 seasons to the Southern Conference to finally join the Southeastern Conference.
A very important part of the Tigers’ history was back in 1935 during the Harry Rabenhorst era; the team won the forerunner of the NCAA Tournament and the mythical national championship. Additionally, the Tigers have reached four times the Final Four during the following years 1953, 1981, 1986 and 2006.

The team’s current Head Coach is Butch Pierre and his assistants are: Chad Dollar, John Treloar, and Jeff Clapacs.
By the end of the 2005/2006 season the team earned overall 1,329 wins and only 995 losses.
