The Mississippi State men’s basketball program opens its doors in 1908 and joined the SEC in 1932. They have won 6 SEC regular seasons and 2 SEC Tournament Championships. Also, it has appeared in 9 NCAA Tournaments from 1987-1998.
Two of the most outstanding coaches for the Bulldogs were Richard Williams who has the best overall record with 191-163 in the seasons 1987-1998 and Coach Rick Stansburg who has a current record of 185-104 and is the current coach of the Bulldogs.
MSU have sent 22 players to the NBA, Jeff Malone was one of them, he scored a career high single season of 777 points in the 1982-1983 season with the Bulldogs . Another remarkable player and currently inducted in the MSU Hall of Fame is Bailey Howell who is second in the all-time leading scorer list with 2,030 points. Bailey scored a career high of 47 points in a game with MSU. |
Last season 2006-2007 the Bulldogs finished first in the regular season standings with a record of 21-14 and a conference record of 8-8.
Presently in the season 2007-2008 the Bulldogs earned the championship of the West with an overall record of 22-10 and a conference record of 12-4. Currently they gained the No.8 national seed and will open the NCAA Tournament against 9th seeded Oregon in the first round of the NCCA Tournament.
