The University of South Carolina Gamecocks formed their first men’s basketball team in 1908 in hands of Coach J.H. Brown.
The Gamecocks have won one ACC regular and tournament title and 4 SoCon regular seasons (1 SoCon title); in 1991 the USC joined the SEC.
English is second behind B.J McKie on USC all-time scoring list with 1,972 points in th seasons 1973-1976. English had a spectacular NBA career, playing for 15 seasons and been in 8 NBA star-game. For the other hand B.J Mckie the first all time leader scorer had a brilliant career in USC with 2,119 points.
Last season 2006-2007 the Gamecocks finished the regular season with an overall record of 14-16 and a 4-12 in the conference record, loosing in the first round of the SEC tournament. Presently in the 2007-2008 season USC ended with a record of 14-18 overall and 5-11 in conference. The Gamecocks defeated LSU in the first round but lost against Tennessee in the quarterfinals.
The Dave Dom era in 2007-08 was final at the end of the season due to mixed results. New Coach Darrin Horn has years of experience in the Southeastern Conference, taking small teams like Western Kentucky to the Sweet Sixteen.
Horn is putting his hopes this 2008-09 period on junior Devan Downey, a possible NBA draftee who has big history on the Conference.
