Though the school was established in 1891, it has seen many names over the years, but when men were first admitted to the school in 1963, the name University of North Carolina at Greensboro was born.
Four years later, the UNCG basketball team was formed and they call it “Spartans”. During the first year of their rally, they recorded an overall standing of 2-11.
The UNCG basketball team joined the Southern Conference North Division in 1997. After five years of campaign, they shared the Southern Conference two Division Titles with the Georgia Southern University.
