The Colonels are the baketball team from Nicholls State University, members of the East Division of the Southland Conference (SLC).

For the fourth season the head coach will be John-Paul Piper, with assitance from Kevin Johnson, Jethro Hillman and Joel Weiss.

Nicholls State won 2 Southland Conference titles the first in 1995 and the other three years later; although they have played twice in NCAA tournaments, they haven't won this title.

The "Colonel" is still used only in name since they don't have a physical mascot _even though they have been searching for it.
