Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) basketball team also knowned as the Islanders, enter the Southland Conference as of 2006-07; before it, they were an independent since 1999 when they began offering Division I sports.

The Islanders played in 2007 for the first time in an NCAA Tournament, but they were sent home in the first round.

For the season 2008 the TAMUCC comes with a new head coach, Perry Clark, joining him as the assistant head coach is Billy Garret, also as coach assistants Brian Merritt and Kevin Norris.
