The men's basketball team from the Texas State University-San Marcos it is nicknamed the Bobcats and the Strahan Coliseum is their home stadium.
Between 1951 and 1979 the Bobcats appeared in the NAIA National Championships, but only won once in 1960. Besides they won 9 titles in Division II, while they were members of the Lone Star Conference (LSC).
Their first Southland Conference Championship title came in 1994 and later in 1997 they were Regular Season & Conference Tournament Champions.
The head coach is Doug Davalos and as coach assistants are Russell Vanlandingham, Jamon Copeland and Omar Lowery.
During the season 2007-08, the Bobcats ended the season with an overall record of 13-16 and a conference record of 6-10. For this season 2008-09, the Bobcats and coach Doug Davalos expected a better performance and a much competitive record to get to the conference tournament.
