The Alcorn State Braves first men’s basketball season was held in 1944. The Braves joined the SWAC in 1962 after being in the NAIA since their first season. The Braves have 11 SWAC Championships and 6 NCAA Tournaments appearances.
There have been great notable players through the years in Alcorn State men’s basketball program such as Richard Smith, all-time career-scorer with 2,527 points; Willie Norwood, second leader-scorer in all-times with 1,973 points and Larry Smith who scored a career season-high of 1,849 points and was named in the hall fame after been a retired player of the NBA and a current assistan WNBA coach.
Last season the Braves in hands of coach Samuel West, ended the 2006-2007 season with an overall record of 11-19.
This current 2007-2008 season Alcorn State have an overall record of 7-24 and the 9th place in the conference standings with a 6-12 record ended for the season.
