Grambling State University was formed in 1901 and accredited in 1949. The Grambling State Tigers joined the SWAC in 1960.
At present the Tigers are coached by Larry Wright, this is his 7th season with the Tigers. Wright total overall record with Gambling State is 89 wins and160 looses.
In the season 2006-2007 the Tigers were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Conference Championship Tournament by Arkansas Pine-Bluff with a score of 51-48 and finishing the season with an overall record of 12-14 and conference record of 10-8 finishing in 3rd place of the regular season standings.
This currently 2007-2008 the Tigers were eliminated again in the quarterfinals against Mississippi Valley 79-73 and ending their season in 7th place of the regular season standings with an overall record of 7-19 and a conference record of 7-11.
