The first Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils men’s basketball season was in 1968 when they joined the SWAC. The Delta Devils has compiled 5 SWAC regular season Championships and four SWAC Tournament Championships over the years.
One of the most remarkable coaches for Mississippi Valley was Lafayette Strimbling, who recorded over 300 victories in 22 years with the team. Their current coach is James Green, who has a current overall record with Mississippi Valley of 42-48, counting this 2007-2008 season on his 3rd season with the team.
One of the greatest former players for the Delta Devils is Alphonso Ford, who scored the top-career scoring with 3,165 points from 1989-1993 seasons. He scored in a single season a total of 916 points.
The 2006-2007 season was a great one for the Delta Devils, who finished with an overall record of 18-16 and ending the season in first place with a conference record of13-5. The Delta Devils lost the SWAC Championship Tournament against Jackson State in that season.
Currently in the 2007-2008 Mississippi Valley finished the regular season in second place in the conference standings with an overall record of 15-15 and a conference record of 12-6. They also won the post-season tournament and the bid for the NCAA Tournament in the #16 seed of the West Regional.
