The school men’s basketball team is known as the Blazers and the team had its first season in 1978.
The team’s first coach Gene Bartow brought great success to the team including 13 appearances in the NCAA Tournament as well as having 1 Elite Eight appearance and 3 Sweet Sixteen.
The team has been part of the NIT tournament 8 different times and has played 2 times in the NIT Final Four.
Other Blazers’ great coaches have been Murray Bartow from 1996-2002, Mike Anderson from 2002-2006 and finally the current coach Mike Davis.
Among some of the team’s most outstanding players are: Steve Mitchell and Oliver Robinson who played in the NBA. Other 15 UAB basketball players have also achieved a professional career in the NBA. |
