The school’s athletics program is known as the Pirates and they have played in 4 different conferences. The school joined the Conference USA in 2001.
East Carolina men’s basketball Pirates has won one conference championship in 1993. In 1989 Theodore “Blue Edwards became the only Pirate to win a CAA Player of the year then later on he was chosen by the Utah Jazz in the NBA draft.
During the 1995 campaign the team welcomed a new Coach Joe Dooley; he won 17 games which became the second most ever at ECU by a first coach.
The Pirates are currently coached by Mack McCarthy and they play their home games at the Williams Arena at the Minges Colliseum. Just last season the team finished with a record of 6-23. |
