The school’s basketball team is known as the Golden Hurricanes. It has been a very accomplished team throughout its history obtaining a NIT championship in 1981 and 2001, an Elite Eight participation in 2000, 14 presentations at the Big Dance and 3 Sweet Sixteen participations.

Among some of Tulsa’s coaches we can mention Tubby Smith, with whom the team won a national championship. Nolan Richardson another notable coach won the NIT for the school.

Tulsa men’s basketball has one long-standing rivalry, with Oral Roberts. In the season 2006-2007 the Golden Hurricane had a record of 20-11 and 9-7 in the Conference and a final presentation at the Conference USA Championship but were defeated by Tulane in the second game.

The team’s new coach is Doug Wojcik and the team plays its home games at the Reynolds Center.

The Golden Hurricanes had a great season during the 2007-08 finishing with an overall record of 25-14 and a conference record of 8-8.  Tulane got to the final of the Conference USA championship on 2008, which was a great achievement but lost against Memphis 67-82.
