The men's basketball team of the New Mexico State University is named the Aggies.
The team has been very successful, it has appeared 17 times in the NCAA Tournament, getting to the Final Four once in 1970.
Recently, they won the WAC Tournament in 2007, in their second year with the conference, coached by NBA veteran Reggie Theus, who leaved the team 3 months after the championship to coach the NBA's Sacramento Spurs.
Theus has been replaced by Marvin Menzies, former Louisville assistant coach.
During the 2007-08 season and on his first year at New Mexico State as head coach, Marvin Menzies had a great season by taking the Aggies to a impressive conference record of 12-4 and an overall record of 21-14, and taking them also to the WAC tournament were they lost against Boise State in the third round. This season 2008-09, Menzies is aiming for a similar o greater period with the Aggies.
