The San Jose State Spartans are members of the WAC and play in the NCAA Division I.

San Jose State has appeared 3 times in the NCAA Tournament, the last one in 1996, but it haven't been able to win any game in the tournament.

Since March 2005 George Nessman has been the head coach of the team and the team plays its home games at the Event Center.

Among the Spartans that have made it to the NBA there is Tariq Abdul-Wahad (formerly known as Oliver Michael Saint-Jean) and Darnell "Dr. Dunk" Hillman.
