The Western Illinois men's basketball team is called the Fighting Leathernecks and they are members of the Summit League since 1982.

The team won the Summit regular season title in 1983 and the post-season tournament title in 1984.

Western Illinois has never appeared in a NCAA Tournament or a NIT Tournament.

The team play its home games at the Western Hall and their head coach is Derek Thomas who has been with the team for five seasons.
