On April 6, 2005, the Washington Nationals recorded their first-ever regular season win by beating the Phillies, 7-3. The win came in their second game of the season and was highlighted by Wilkerson's hit for the cycle.

Some of the Washington’s Hall of Famers are Frank Robinson and Dick Williams (managers), Gary Carter, Walter Johnson, Early Wynn and Tony Perez.

During the 2007 campaign the team recorded 73 wins, 89 loses finishing in 4th place in the league.
