When the team first began it was known as SABCO Racing back in 1989 and it participated in NASCAR and Indy Series. And 12-years later Ganassi acquired most of the group’s stocks therefore, it became Ganassi Racing.
In 1992 Ganassi’s vision was to expand to two racing vehicles and short after the team became one of the top ones in the Series.
In addition to the team’s continuous success the former Formula One driver Juan Pablo Montoya who had achieved 18 wins, 26 poles, 60 top-five and 79 top-10 finishes in this category decided to switch to Nascar and IndyCar and in 1999 he wins his maiden 2007 NASCAR Sprint Cup championship during his first season.
As for this year 2008 Montoya continues to earn respect from his competitors as he endures his top position in the premier Series as the first Latino to have won it.
Another unexpected event was the sudden news which was released by the end of October 2007 when CGRFS announced it had signed the well-known Indy Car and Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti to drive for the 2008 season.
