The Yamaha team early beginning dates to 1990 when the group raced in the 250cc category. It was until 1999 when they partnered with the Yamaha Company and began using their motorcycles.
The Yamaha Tech 3 crew is currently based in Bormes Les Mimosas in the south of France; they have recently strengthened bounds with the factory extending the agreement of the YZR-M1 machinery until 2011.
During the 2000 season riders Olivier Jacque and Shinya Nakano were in the 1st and 2nd positions of the 250 cc Grand Prix Championship.
For a couple of season in 2006 and 2007 the team switched to Dunlop tires but made the decision to return to Michelin for the 2008 campaign.
For the current season Colin Edwards & James Toseland are the new Yamaha Tech 3 riders.
