The Yamaha brand has been well-known for being the biggest piano maker in the world besides its motor engine developments and enhancements.

Throughout the years the team becomes involves in motorcycling racing and as of the 1999 season the Fiat Yamaha team is created.

Carlos Checa and Max Biaggi were the first official riders Yamaha introduced to the racing tracks and both riders raced for four years.

During that period Biaggi managed 9 wins riding the Yamaha YZR500 and the Yamaha YZR-M1 models.

During the 2003 and 2004 season Melandri and Rossi joined the team and partnered with Checa. Rossi captured the World Championship in 2004 and 2005. The following season Colin Edwards replaced Checa; while Rossi wins the championship again.

For both the 2006 & 2007 season both main riders Rossi and Edwards stayed as main part in the line-up riding the new 800cc Yamaha YZR-M1. For the present 2008 season the Multi MotoGP Jorge Lorenzo joined the team while Rossi remains as team leader.
