The Cavaliers team was founded in 1970. The team had their first winning era between the late 1980’s and middle 1990’s, when they had postseason action in consecutive years, though most of those years they didn’t advance further than the first round.
After this era, the team struggled for several years with losing campaigns, which make them drop to the bottom of the league. However, this was the best thing that could happen to the them since with the No.1 draft pick, they selected the high school promise that everybody wanted, LeBron James.
James has been outstanding since his first year with the team, when he won the Rookie of the Year Award in 2004. He has also been named three times to the All-NBA 1st Team, two of them consecutive in the most recent seasons.
In addition, in 2005 Cleveland hired Mike Brown to his first head coaching position and this was another great acquisition since has turned the Cavs into one of the top defensive teams on the NBA and he helped them to make it to the 2007 NBA Finals. As well, leaded by LeBron James, the team has clinched one conference title as well as two division titles.
The regular season 2008-09 has been the best yet for the franchise; they finished as the absolute leaders of the NBA with an amazing record of 66 wins and 16 losses, with an incredible 39-2 record at home games (second best in the NBA all-time). They also clinched home court advantage for the whole playoffs for first time in their history.
The post-season started in a great way for the NBA leaders, sweeping both the Detroit Pistons and the Atlanta Hawks before getting to the Eastern Finals against the Orlando Magic, who had already defeated the defending champion Boston in 7 games. However, against all odds the Cavaliers lost the Game 1 at home – only their third home loss in the entire season – loosing a home court advantage that they're were not able to regain, and went on to lose the series 4-2.
