The Dallas Mavericks' history dates back to 1980 when it was founded and they are the only team representing Dallas, Texas in the league.
During the mid eighties the Mavs became a very ferocious opponent on their basketball division; concluding with a division title in 1987.
After many management changes during the 90’s, the team remained on a lower level, but still surprising on the conference.
After 2001 the Mavs began rising once more. The team has reached the playoffs in consecutive years since the 2000-01 season until present, winning the conference title in 2006 and another division title in 2007.
The Mavericks have a new head coach this year, Rick Carlisle, who could bring some new ideas and strategies to the team. They also traded the experienced veteran Jason Kid since the beginning of 2008 and he has formed a great trio along with Dirk Nowitzki and Josh Howard.
For their latest campaign in 2008-09, they achieved a record of 50 wins, 32 losses, and an average .610 percentage, finishing third in the Southwest Division and 7th in the Western Conference, clinching a spot in the 2009 Playoffs. Dallas won the first round 4-1 to the San Antonio Spurs, but failed in the Conference Semifinals against the Denver Nuggets.
